Dog House Training
Puppies
are not able to hold themselves for long periods of time,
therefore need to be taken out on regular occasions so as
not to us the house as a means of them going to the toilet.
Sometimes you may be out too long and your puppy need to go,
therefore, a tray should be in place that you teach your puppy
to go to toilet in at the beginning, so at least if you are
unavailable to take your puppy outside, it is aware of a tray
that they can use, and will not be in trouble if they go.
Older dogs just like humans can wait much longer than puppies
once they are trained, but still if you leave them too long,
will have to go at some point. One of the best ways to train
your dog is to teach them the correct way to go to toilet
from the start and praise them every time, so they know what
is right. There will at times be the occasional accident,
and they should be reminded that this is wrong, and shout
‘NO’ and immediately take them outside to the
place they normally use, just so they know where they should
and should not go as a reminder. If your dog is still in the
middle of it when you catch them, do not let them finish,
take them outside, and when they have finished outside praise
them. Dogs generally need to go in the morning, last thing
on an evening, and an hour or so after meal times. They should
be taken outside or walked at these times.
If you dog continues to go inside then you are simply not
taking out enough, and must do so more regularly. Many dogs
can last for hours at a time, but some unfortunately can’t.
You need to know what your dog is capable of and leave them
for the correct amount of time so accidents do not happen.
If you are going out longer than your dog can handle, then
leave them in a confined space with a tray or paper, so if
they have to go, they know where to go.
